POLLUTION

Pollution refers to the introduction of physical, chemical or biological substances or agents that cause damage or alter the natural environment, such as air, water and soil, this will negatively affect the health of living beings, the ecological balance and natural systems

TYPES OF POLLUTION

Air pollution: Ecuadorian cities, especially Quito and Guayaquil face high levels of air pollution due to vehicular traffic. If industrial emissions and agricultural practices increase, this will contribute to health problems such as respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.

Water pollution: Water pollution is a serious problem in Ecuador, with industrial, agricultural and domestic discharges contaminating rivers, streams and bodies of water If this is controlled in time for both human health and wildlife, it will have long-term positive impacts on aquatic ecosystems.

regions of Ecuador. If toxic waste and chemicals are used in agriculture, they can contaminate the soil and destroy the quality of crops, as well as the health of people who will live near contaminated areas.

Noise pollution: If occurs when there is excess noise in the environment, whether due to human activities such as vehicular traffic, industry, construction or natural events such as storms. If noise

Pollution increases, it can have negative effects on people´s physical and mental health and will affect wildlife.

                                           POLLUTION

Why does pollution occur in Ecuador?

Pollution in Ecuador has multiple causes, some of which are similar to those seen in other countries, while others are specific to the country's geography, economy, and policies.

Industrial activity: Ecuador has a growing industry, especially in sectors such as mining, oil production, manufacturing and intensive agriculture.   If       these industrial   activities continue, they can generate emissions of polluting gases, industrial waste and chemicals that will contaminate the air, water and soil.

Deforestation and land use change: Deforestation and conversion of forest lands into agricultural and urban lands. If deforestation for industrial activities is not reduced, it will degrade the environment and contribute to biodiversity loss, soil erosion and water pollution.

Use     of      pesticides and fertilizers in agriculture: Intensive agriculture in Ecuador depends largely on the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers. If these actions are not regulated, they will contaminate the soil and nearby water sources, affecting human health and biodiversity.

Improper waste management: If lack of infrastructure and adequate systems for the management of solid and liquid waste are not controlled, it will result in contamination of soil, water and air through uncontrolled landfills, untreated wastewater and burning of waste.

                                 What can we do?

There are many actions we can take at the individual, community and government levels to prevent pollution and protect the environment. Among some we can mention:

Reduce energy consumption.

Use public transportation, walk or bike.

Reduce, reuse and recycle.

Conserve water.

Participate in community actions.

Education and awareness.

If we put all these recommendations into practice, they will serve as an incentive to reduce pollution and have a country free of danger and thus enjoy our lives without major complications.
